Cannabis- A Clear Choice For Natural Pain Relief, Healing and PTSD for Veterans

November 07, 2025

veteran Paul Trapper Cane

Every year in November, we come together as a community to honour the people who have fought for our country. As we honour them, we must acknowledge not only the battles they faced in their time of service but also the often invisible battles they face long after they return from home. Issues such as chronic pain, injury recovery and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) affect countless veterans– and for many, the traditional medical approach is simply not enough.

That’s why more veterans are turning to cannabis– providing natural relief for both mental and physical pain.

Stewart Farms CEO, Tanner Stewart, sat down with Canadian veteran Trapper Cane to talk about his experiences in war and why he’s chosen cannabis to be at the forefront of his healing.

Trapper Cane: A Veteran Finding Relief Beyond Pharmaceuticals

Like many, Cane’s interest in the army stemmed from his family member’s service. His time in the service included reconnaissance, mountain climbing and parachuting– until one tragic jump changed everything. When another parachutist lost consciousness mid-air, Cane collided and fell hard. The impact shattered both the talus bones in his feet, caused 41 fractures in his right leg, drove his femur into his bowels and broke his spine.

After two years and 19 surgeries, Cane learned to walk again– but his road to recovery came with a heavy price.

“They gave me brown paper bags filled with chemicals,” Cane recalls. “After years of morphine and anti-inflammatories, my body was breaking down– and I found myself addicted, twice.”

When medical cannabis became available, Cane saw an opportunity to reclaim his health.

“I went cold turkey. I never had to go back to morphine. The THC took care of the pain and the CBD helped me move again. It works”

Cannabis As Medicine For Veterans

For veterans living with chronic pain, old injuries, anxiety, PTSD and inflammation, cannabis offers a safer and more natural approach to traditional pharmaceuticals.

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol): interacts with the body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS) to reduce the perception of pain and promote relaxation.

CBD (cannabidiol): works to reduce inflammation, anxiety and muscle tension– without the psychoactive effects of THC.

Together, THC & CBD help the body find balance: easing body tension and relaxing the mind.

Healing Beyond the Battlefield

This month of remembrance, Stewart Farms proudly honours veterans like Cane– individuals who continue to learn, grow and serve others in new ways. We stand with the veteran community in advocating for access to medical cannabis, fair treatment, and tax-free medicine for all those who need it.
